eResource Central is SirsiDynix’s digital content management solution that integrates electronic resources such as e-books and e-audiobooks with regular catalog searches. Depending on the level of integration between the various vendors and SirsiDynix, users can search for materials, view real-time availability, places holds on unavailable items, and check out items. Digital checkouts and the ability to place holds or return items is also available for some vendors from within the My Account features in Enterprise.
Search results from the Digital Catalog show items from OverDrive and cloudLibrary. Availability is real-time.
Content from resources licensed statewide (cloudLibrary) will show in all Enterprise catalogs when searching the Digital Library. Libraries with OverDrive and Hoopla content can also include those collections in their eRC search results and integrations, although only one library has chosen to show Hoopla content in their catalog.
Content collections in eResource Central are updated in a daily vendor import automatically.
Search results that contain items from eResource Central show metadata as provided by the vendors and publishers. There is no local control in WYLD for the display of this data. Any errors in content, such as titles or summaries should be reported directly to the vendor. The State Library can report these types of errors to cloudLibrary, but any other digital content sources that are locally licensed will need to be handled through the individual library’s support contacts.
Digital content collections can change frequently due to the expiration of rights (e.g. 26 circulations with HarperCollins), so eResource Central provides a more elegant solution to providing up to date information about current holdings in digital collections than static MARC records which must be managed.
