Are you new to the wonderful world of cataloging? Maybe you haven’t thought about cataloging since library school and your new job requires a memory jog?
The Texas State Library and Archives Commission compiled a list of cataloging resources and training opportunities to build your skills that we’re reposting here, with some Wyoming-specific resources included.
WebJunction training
- WebJunction has a free, one hour, self-paced course called Introduction to Cataloging for Non-Catalogers.
- The Idaho Commission for Libraries also has a free online course as part of their ABLE program called, Technical Services Sequence. These are all available via WebJunction.
- The Accidental Cataloger: Tips & Tools to Help You Use the Rules – archived webinar from WebJunction and NCompass Live.
Resources from the American Library Association (ALA) and the Library of Congress:
- ALA’s Association for Library Collections and Technical Services (ALCTS) has some free webinar archives, including a lot on RDA that might interest more seasoned staff.
- The Library of Congress also has many cataloging resources for the more advanced and academic set with their Catalogers Learning Workshop. The Library of Congress also has a great guide to MARC titled Understanding MARC.
