Today, the Wyoming State Library welcomed Conrrado Saldivar to our staff as the Outreach and Development Librarian. Among his duties, he will handle library statistics, work with the state institution libraries, and serve as LSTA coordinator for federal grant funds.

“I was attracted to the job because of the strong outreach with underserved communities across the entire state” Conrrado said. “I also like the balance of that portion and the statistics gathering that is also part of the position. It provides enough of the ‘people’ aspect while also forcing me to keep up to date with spreadsheets and technology.”

He comes to us from the Natrona County Library, where he began in 2015 as an Adult Services Specialist and recently had his title changed to Adult Services Librarian. While at NCL, he found the expansion of the library’s makerspace in partnership with the University of Wyoming’s Innovation Wyrkshop and the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation was a fulfilling opportunity, both for himself and his patrons. He said he’ll miss the ’Til Death Due You Part book club with Central Wyoming Hospice and Transitions. “ The patrons who participated always had such unique thoughts about and experiences with death, dying, and grieving.”

Conrrado graduated from the University of Wyoming in 2013 with a BA in anthropology and another in Spanish. Over the summer, he graduated with his MLIS from the University of Washington. During graduate school, he was selected as an ALA Spectrum Scholar and a Husky 100 student (100 students who apply classroom knowledge to the outside world). In 2020, he received the Wyoming Library Association’s Outstanding Librarian award. He currently serves as the organization’s Vice President and chair of the EDI Committee.

As Conrrado starts his new position, he says, “I look forward to providing a positive impact to the individuals who use library collections at the state institutions. I’m also excited to be coordinator for the LSTA grants because I’ll get to see how projects go from start to finish with those funds.”

He’s also looking forward to learning some new hiking trails now that he’s made the move to Cheyenne. He’s also started playing his alto saxophone again after a long break, and he hopes to join the Cheyenne Civic Concert Band.
