Brenda McGinnis
After almost 28 years in the Lincoln County Library System, Brenda McGinnis is retiring at the end of the month. June 30 is the last working day for McGinnis who has served as director of the library system for the past thirteen years.
McGinnis, whose early years were on a farm in Kentucky, came to Kemmerer, Wyoming via Georgia, Washington and South Dakota, as she and husband, Dave, moved with his career in the National Park Service. Her introductory job in the Kemmerer library was working evenings in the children’s department, and eventually she moved into Tech Services before becoming director in 2002.
During her tenure, the library system expanded from four to six libraries with branches added in the towns of Thayne and Alpine. She includes the growth of the library foundation’s endowment fund as one of the most gratifying accomplishments of her time as director.
McGinnis is involved in the Kemmerer community, currently serving a fourth term on the Board of Trustees for Lincoln County School District # 1 and as Assistant District Governor for the Rotary Clubs of Kemmerer, Evanston and Rock Springs. For the WYLD network, she served multiple terms as Chairman of the Fees and Budget Committee.
Retirement plans include spending time with family—sons, Tyler and Kyle, and grandchildren, David and Meryl—and friends. She looks forward to hiking, traveling, reading, and volunteering.
McGinnis noted that what she will miss most “is the opportunity to interact with the people who participate in the library community. Patrons, board members, staff and colleagues—they’re some of the most dedicated, supportive and dynamic people you’ll ever meet.”
