Where Intellectual Freedom and Social Justice Meet: A Call to Action (Freedom to Read Foundation)
The Freedom to Read Foundation (FTRF) invites all library workers, educators, authors, journalists, publishers, social justice workers and First Amendment advocates to attend and participate in its free virtual symposium. The agenda for day one will focus on exploring the core values of Intellectual Freedom and Social Justice and how to find the balance between them. Day two will focus on empowering participants to take action. Panelists will draw on their knowledge and experience to offer strategies for community change, building consensus, developing strong policies, and building coalitions and public outreach.

Join us July 14 for our second annual SLJ Picture Book Palooza, an all-day, free virtual celebration of authors and artists dedicated to the visual dance and extraordinary craft of picture books! Visit the exhibit hall, chat with authors and publishing teams, download digital galleys, and be prepared to be inspired as you build your collection.

Urban Librarianship: Embracing Challenges and Opportunities through Innovation, Leadership, and Best Practices (Library 2.022)
Urban librarianship increasingly encompasses having to address many of society’s challenges through the people we serve. This situates Urban libraries in the epicenter of the communities they serve and also presents new opportunities to impact them at even greater levels. As always, we are up to the challenge. This Library 2.0 mini-conference is a chance to share and to learn the ideas, innovations, tools, and techniques that will help all library leaders in their work with people and their communities.

Understanding Soft Risk in Volunteer Engagement (VolunteerMatch)
We all worry about the hard risks that can have an impact on our volunteers and the work they do, but too often we don’t think about the soft risks. Soft risks are the attitudes, beliefs and actions that expose our organizations to risks. Those risks may include the actions of staff – both paid and volunteer – interactions on social media, and a lack of training for leaders and volunteers all leading to risky behavior. This webinar will introduce how failing to screen for characteristics or “fit” can open volunteers and the organization up to risk. This webinar is designed to help attendees identify soft risks in their organization and give them the tools to make changes to processes and culture to minimize and address these risks.
