Many of the Wyoming State Library’s projects and events were funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services in 2024, including both of the Directors’ Workshops and the School Library Conference.
A Directors’ Workshop was held February 21-22, 2024, in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Seventeen Wyoming library directors from across the state attended the event, which included Wyoming State Library updates, tours of both the Wyoming capitol during the legislative budget session and the Laramie County Community College makerspace, as well as training on emotional intelligence and building trust.
The School Library Retreat, a mini-conference for school librarians, was held in the summer of 2024. The event brought twenty-four school librarians together from across Wyoming to learn and network with their peers. Highlights included a visit from Wyoming State Superintendent Megan Deganfelder and learning about AI in education from Julie Erickson.
A Director’s Workshop was held October 16-18 in Jackson, Wyoming. Twenty-two directors participated in instruction and conversations that explored visions and actions for community engagement, developed their self-awareness as leaders, enhanced their understanding of tools to effectively navigate change, and leveraged the experience in the group to promote greater collective efficacy. Rose Hendricks of River Story Coaching provided training on Day 1 of the event and participants received instruction from Conrrado Saldivar and Darcy Lipp-Acord on the topic of Law for Librarians on Day 2.
All three of these events provided valuable instruction and networking opportunities for Wyoming librarians.
