As part of Wyoming’s celebration of the USA’s 250th anniversary in 2026, the American Heritage Center at the University of Wyoming is creating a book called Wyoming’s History in 76 Objects, and they would like your help! Please submit a historical object for consideration to represent the history of your county.
The book will bring together these items representing Wyoming’s history—each with a photograph and a description of its historical significance—and place them into the sweep of history.
The editorial team wants to make sure that all Wyoming is included, with objects from every county and tribal territory appearing in the volume. We encourage individuals from across the state, as well as tribal nations, museums, archives,
libraries and historical organizations, to consider the history of their county or territory and identify an object that that tells its story.
What is an “object”? Almost anything. You could suggest a manuscript, a painting, a photograph, a personal or family object—whether a small item (clothing, weapon, cooking utensil) or a larger one (such as a saddle or wagon)—or even a building or part of Wyoming’s landscape. These are just some suggestions; there are no limitations to what you can send in.
To submit a suggestion for a historical object to be included, take a picture of it and then go to this web location (URL):
https://uwyo.sjc1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_5okoi3qCKyWJBXM
There you will find a short form asking you to upload the photograph, describe the object and its historical significance, and indicate its location (county or reservation). That’s all there is to it.
So, choose your favorite historical object, take a photo of it, and send it in!
