Abby Beaver has been appointed Interim Director of the Wyoming State Library, replacing Jamie Markus, who is leaving after 18 years, the past seven as Wyoming State Librarian.  Abby brings a wealth of experience, both at the WSL and beyond.

When a friend of her brother suggested she go for a job at the University of Wyoming’s Coe Library, Abby applied and began her library journey as a Coe Library student employee.  At Coe library, Abby began in inter-library loan and worked her way up from there to circulation, student supervisor, and ultimately to evening supervisor.  In 2008, Abby moved on from Coe to work at UW’s George Hopper Law Library while earning her Master of Library Science from Clarion University (2010).  She also holds a BS in biology with minors in zoology and music.

In 2011, Abby became a librarian at Sheridan College and eventually moved to Cheyenne in 2016 when she began working for the Wyoming State Library, serving as Information Services Manager for nearly eight years.  Abby has given back to the library community, serving as the Wyoming Library Association’s Vice-President and President from 2018-2021.

Abby, a Wyoming Native, is an avid reader, artist, and animal enthusiast. Abby’s two cats (Freya and Circe), her boxer (Finn), and her GoldenDoodle (Poppy), would no doubt attest to both her love of animals and books…if they could talk.

While we bid Jamie a fond farewell and thank him for his years of dedicated service and leadership at the Wyoming State Library, we welcome Abby in her new role as Interim Director.  Under her leadership, the Wyoming State Library will continue to move forward and serve the Wyoming library community.
