Al and Ann Simpson ‘After Hours’ at the Greybull Library

May 23, 2012

To celebrate National Library Week in April, the Greybull Library hosted an “After Hours” event with Senator Alan and Ann Schroll Simpson.  Ann’s Aunt, Ivy Maxon, was a Greybull Librarian and longtime supporter of the library in the 1950s and 1960s. The evening began at 6 p.m. with hors d’oeuvres, wine and conversation, followed by an interview that focused on Ann’s early years growing up in Greybull.  Those in attendance also had the opportunity to view a power point presentation on the history of the Greybull Library that assistant librarian, Pat Miller, produced especially for this event.

Betty Koller, branch librarian at Greybull, is noted for her “After Hours” events and this was no exception!  The 75 guests in attendance were thoroughly entertained by the Simpsons
as they reminisced about how they met and their political life in the Capital.  Besides giving a substantial donation to the foundation, Senator Simpson offered to give autographed copies of the book “Shooting from the Lip, The Life of Senator Al Simpson” by Donald Loren Hardy, to anyone who would make a generous donation to the Big Horn County Library Foundation.  This event was advertised as a fund raiser for the Foundation Endowment Fund, 3:1 match.  $2500.00 was generated that night, but the Foundation also received contributions from sources developed during the evening that resulted in a total of $6600.00.  It was a great event for the Library and the Foundation!
