Celebrating Children’s Book Week with GoWYLD

May 3, 2021

Bookflix home page section showing categories and topicsMay 3-9, 2021, is Children’s Book Week. To help you celebrate, the Wyoming State Library would like to highlight a favorite resource in GoWYLD.net.

Check out Bookflix, a resource for grades PreK-3 that pairs classic fictional video storybooks with related eBooks. Animation, audio and interactive games are designed to reinforce core reading skills. Note that there are two different links into Bookflix. From your public library, and from school or home.

Select a category and then a pair. For example: Family and Community, Wild About Books and Welcome to the Library. The video story book can be set with read-along on or without. After watching the story, there are Puzzlers such as “which came first?” and “Fact or Fiction?” Plus, each pair includes a nonfiction e-book that complements the subject

Under Resources & Tools (the apple-on-a-book icon), there is a full title list and lesson plans for each pair. Stories/pairs can be searched/sorted by running time, themes as well as categories, and Lexile/grade level. Use themes to find poetry and rhyme, biographies, history, science and nature, and more. Under the resources tab you will find library program ideas and classroom activities.

Sprinkled in among the narrators you will hear Claire Danes, Meryl Streep, Helen Hunt & Frank Azaria, Steve Buscemi, John Lithgow, James Earl Jones, Laila Ali, Laura Dern, and Jake Gyllenhaal.

We encourage you to take a look and listen! This is a wonderful resource to use in school and the library, as well as from home. About one-third of the book pairs are also in Spanish. Besides sharing the book with children, this might also be a fun way to practice your Spanish.

Access this resource at GoWYLD.net. Select from the Browse by Title list or under the subject Kids K-8. For school and remote access, you will be prompted for your Wyoming library card and PIN.

Wyoming libraries can promote this resource with bookmarks with the GoWYLD.net logo on the marketing downloads page.
