Nov 8, 2016

Today, Nov. 8, is National STEM/STEAM Day. With the rising importance of these subjects in schools, it helps to have a national day to celebrate all things STEAM! According to Texas Girls’ Collaborative Project, today is also X-Ray Discovery Day. Find more STEM-themed days on their website.

GoWYLD.net has the resources you need to support STEAM projects and programs. Take a tour in this new archived webinar with Chris Van Burgh and Paige Bredenkamp.

Among the GoWYLD resources, Gale has recently added approximately 560 educational videos to Kids InfoBits, with dozens more to come in the next few weeks. Focusing on STEM concepts for elementary students, the 1-3 minute videos cover topics such as the sun, Earth, minerals, simple machines, water, plants, energy, and many more. The videos can help children who are visual or audio learners, and can be incorporated into elementary classroom instruction. Full text transcriptions accompany each video to allow students to read along, get correct spelling, and quote the message. The videos are done in English, but the text transcriptions can be machine-translated into over 20 languages.
