From 1898, when “Felt is now raised to the highest pinnacle of millinery smartness for day wear, forenoon especially,” to the return of the “pale felt hat” in 1940 with the suggested way to wear your felt hat — if you are young, pushed back and if you are older, pushed slightly forward.
