Designing a Learning Ecosystem for the Modern Learner (Training Industry)
Join us for this complimentary webinar, sponsored by O’Reilly Media. Karen Hebert-Maccaro, O’Reilly’s chief learning experience officer, will share how to build a learning ecosystem that meets the needs of the modern learner. The book is a beginner-level guide focusing on developmental reading strategies for elementary students at all stages and exploring how technology can be used to improve the skills of a wide range of readers, including beginning readers, struggling readers, reluctant readers, enriched readers and English Language Learners (ELLs).

Bringing a Geographic Perspective to Libraries and K-12. Create. Share. Learn (Washington State Library)
Geography matters in every organization and every discipline. For anyone trying to evaluate information, the most intuitive way to view it is on a map. In this webinar we will discuss how three agencies in Washington State are using GIS technology to bring a new perspective to learning and understanding data from the world around us. Included will be Enabling Local Government Transparency. Jason will discuss the benefits of Kittitas County’s Open Data Hub, the technology and infrastructure behind it and the benefits to having data available for public access. Joanne will demonstrate the Geospatial Open Data Site at the state, geo.wa.gov, how to view the data and a few examples of using geography for state business. And Bruce will discuss how OSPI uses GIS to manage student transportation data and encourage use of GIS in the classrooms through an annual middle school/ high school competition.

Understanding Soft Risk in Volunteer Engagement (VolunteerMatch)
We all worry about the hard risks that can have an impact on our volunteers and the work they do, but too often we don’t think about the soft risk. Soft risks are the attitudes, beliefs and actions that expose our organizations to risks. Those risks may include the actions of staff – both paid and volunteer, interactions on social media, lack of training for leaders and volunteers – leading to risky behavior, and how failing to screen for characteristics or “fit” can open volunteers and the organization up to risk. This webinar is designed to help attendees identify soft risks in their organization and give them the tools to make changes to processes and culture to minimize and address these risks.

This one-hour introductory webinar, “Using Data for Decision-Making: An Environmental Scan Case Study”, will provide an opportunity for librarians to explore the concept of using data for decision-making through an example of an environmental scan case study. Participants will learn how to plan and conduct an environmental scan, collect and curate existing data, and how to analyze data using Voyant-Tools. In this webinar, the case study findings will be presented and we will also discuss how data and conclusions can be used to plan future programs or initiatives. No prior knowledge of environmental scanning or data tools are required.
