More than Calm: Exercising Your Attention with Mindfulness -Session 1 (State Library of North Carolina)
While the scientific evidence of its potential benefits grows, there’s a counter-intuitive art to establishing a consistent mindfulness practice. Live mindfulness practice sessions with an experienced coach help participants set realistic expectations, customize their approach to fit their needs, and better understand how to interpret their practice experiences. These will be two separate practice sessions to work on your mindfulness techniques and take some time to relax and re-center. You are welcome to attend both sessions to practice what you’ve learned.

Bringing Students Back to the Page: Using Digital Resources to Accelerate Learning (edWeb.net)
Prior to school closures, many American students were not reading enough to get to proficient literacy levels. In our current reality, this number is even greater. For some students, access to high-quality texts may have decreased more over the past months. As instruction has turned remote, educators can lean on digital resources to serve as a means for ensuring that all students get the exposure to the texts they need. This presentation will describe how digital resources can serve as a bridge to accelerate learning and bring students “back to the page.”

Identity and Impostor Syndrome in Library Makerspaces (Nebraska Library Commission)
This session will share the findings of one librarian’s examination of her impostor syndrome and consider factors that can contribute to self-doubt in library makerspaces. She will share the results of conversations and interviews with her peers, as well as strategies for managing impostor syndrome. Participants are encouraged to take time to reflect on a time when they felt out of place or unsure of themselves, and share their own approaches for conquering impostor syndrome.

As the COVID-19 Pandemic develops and libraries create immediate, short-term, and long-term responses, Kendrick has been tracking these responses’ impact on already established low-morale experiences. Kendrick will summarize the markers and impacts of low-morale experiences, share the latest results of her survey, and answer attendees’ questions about the survey and/or low morale experiences. Countermeasures to workplace abuse and neglect will also be discussed.

How PubMed Works: Selection (National Network of Libraries of Medicine)
During this class we’ll look at the roles and responsibilities of NLM in collecting and providing access to biomedical literature, including the NLM process for evaluating publishers. This class will describe the difference between PubMed, MEDLINE and PubMed Central (PMC) and explore the selection criteria and process for MEDLINE and PMC. Attend this class to learn what is meant by “publish or perish” in academia and how this affects and is affected by publishing. We’ll describe three different models of publishing and we’ll look at the impact that funder and institutional policies have on access to research results.
