Gorillas and More: Free ZooBooks

Jan 8, 2019

The Wyoming State Library has a fantastic collection of ZooBooks and dinosaur posters that are free for you to give away in your communities. For those of you who haven’t seen them, we have more than 80,000 Gorilla ZooBooks and a number of assorted titles. These books feature beautiful photographs and illustrations alongside in-depth research presented at an elementary school reading level. Once you have your selected ZooBooks, they’re yours to keep and use for whatever you like, including:

  • Programs on conservation, using gorillas as a centerpiece and/or starting point to introduce kids to topics like endangered animals and extinction
  • Prizes for Summer Reading (the 2020 theme is Animals) or any other program
  • Treats for kids who visit the library on Halloween, Valentine’s Day, Penguin Awareness Day (January 20 — mark your calendars!), the Ides of March, random Tuesdays….
  • A program on habitats and ecosystems, showing kids how each animal contributes something essential to their environment and food web
  • A program on animal behavior, showing some interesting things gorillas (and perhaps other animals) do and how those things have helped them survive

In addition to ZooBooks, we also have over 8,000 dinosaur posters, all of which are laminated and feature drawings to scale and information on the different dinosaur families, presented in an engaging manner.

If you’re interested, email Danielle Price at danielle.price@wyo.gov or call her at 307-777-5918. Remember: the Legislative Reception is fast approaching, so if you’d like to pick up a few ZooBooks and/or posters around that time, let Danielle know and she’ll work out the details with you.
