Goshen County Library Will Improve Accessibility with Grant Award

Apr 4, 2025

The Goshen County Library serves the community of Torrington, WY, and the surrounding area.

The Goshen County Library has been selected as one of 300 libraries to participate in round three of Libraries Transforming Communities: Accessible Small and Rural Communities, an initiative of the American Library Association (ALA). This national program provides small and rural libraries with resources to enhance accessibility and better serve individuals with disabilities.

The $20,000 grant will be used to install accessible shelving and a wheelchair-accessible public computer desk, ensuring that all library visitors, including those with mobility challenges, can navigate and utilize library resources with greater ease

“We are honored to receive this grant, enabling us to make meaningful improvements that enhance the comfort and accessibility of our library for all,” said Library Director Cristine Braddy. Libraries should be welcoming spaces for everyone, and these improvements will help ensure that all residents, regardless of ability, feel comfortable and empowered to use our services.”

As part of the initiative, library staff will complete specialized training on leading community conversations. They will then host a discussion on accessibility in public spaces, gathering insights from the community to help shape future enhancements and services.

For many Goshen County residents, the library serves as a critical resource for education, technology access, and community engagement. By removing physical barriers, these updates will allow more people to fully participate in everything the library has to offer.

Community members interested in getting involved or learning more about this project are encouraged to contact Cristine Braddy at (307)-532-3411, or visit the Goshen County Library’s website for updates and event details.
