Governor Proclaims Wyoming Literacy Day

May 15, 2018

In conjunction with today’s Wyoming Reads celebrations, Governor Matthew H. Mead has declared May 15, 2018 to be “Wyoming Literacy Day.”

Read the proclamation.

Today, every first grade Wyoming student—nearly 8,000 children in all—will receive a new, hardback book of his or her own to keep. Across the state, there are 35 local celebrations planned. We’ll have photos and news from some of them later today.

Wyoming Reads is a program of the Sue Jorgensen Library Foundation. The Wyoming State Library was proud to offer financial support to purchase books this year through the WSL’s  Center for the Book Program. Wyoming Reads uses the State Library’s Central Acquisitions program to purchase books at steep discounts to stretch donated dollars.
