Tomorrow is Independence Day! Did you know that Wyoming has an Oregon Trail landmark named for this special day in U.S. history?

Independence Rock, located in Natrona County, this resting point along the Oregon Trail became an unofficial register for travelers who would inscribe their names on the rock. It is now a popular place for visitors to see a piece of our nation’s history and celebrate our independence as a country.

For more information on Independence Rock and other notable places in Wyoming, visit the Places Calendar on the Wyoming State Library’s Digital Collection Suite.

Happy (almost!) Independence Day from the Wyoming State Library!
