Dean Fausset, Director of the Wyoming Department of Administration and Information, has announced that Jamie Markus has been named Wyoming State Librarian. Jamie has served as the Interim State Librarian since June 2015.

“Over the past year as Interim, Jamie has demonstrated his strong vision for moving the State Library forward,” said Fausset. “He’s shown the ability to innovate and build strong partnerships throughout the state. I’m pleased to make this appointment.”

Markus has been with the State Library for 11 years and has worked as the Library Development Manager for the past seven. He is a past president of the Wyoming Library Association (WLA), was the 2011 WLA Librarian of the Year and was named a 2009 Library Journal Mover & Shaker. In 2014, he was honored as a White House “Champion of Change” for promoting libraries as essential partners in community outreach efforts.

“I’m honored and excited to find myself in this position, leading this team,” Markus said. “We have a great staff at the State Library, and we support a terrific library community in Wyoming. I look forward to completing the projects we’ve begun over the past year and moving forward to even better things.”

Specifically, Markus said, the continued development of the WYLD Network, including its statewide shared library catalog, is at the top of the priority list. Plans are in place to expand the homegrown resources in the Digital Collection Suite, particularly in the Wyoming State Publications and Wyoming Legislation collections. “And as always,” Markus added, “we are glad to answer questions and support our libraries and patrons however we can.”
