Library Use on Snapshot Day

Snapshot Day 2020 at Medicine Bow Library

Wyoming libraries are busy, serving their communities day in and day out. Our Snapshot Day tally tells the story of how our libraries are used, both physically and electronically.

On Snapshot Day, Wednesday, October 21, 2020, Wyoming’s public and community college libraries:

  • Circulated 10,283 items, including 5,045 children’s items
  • Issued 72 new library cards
  • Added 690 items to their catalogs
  • 3,365,075 million items available to Wyoming’s residents in their collections
  • Saw the library catalog (WYLDCat) used for 2,506 sessions and 13,309 searches by 1,759 unique users

From data collected annually by the Wyoming State Library, we estimate that on an average day, there are:

  • 8,559 visits to public libraries
  • 1,560 people using a public library computer
  • 1,087 reference questions answered in public libraries
  • 787 children and teens who attended programs at their public libraries
  • 45 meeting room uses
  • 856 wireless internet sessions
  • 7,281 retrievals of information from WYLD databases
  • 4,000 library catalog (WYLDCat) sessions, nearly 30,000 searches, and 3,488 unique users

The GoWYLD.net electronic resources offer articles, ebooks, scholarly sources, downloadable audiobooks, courses and tutorials, and much more. These are available to every Wyoming resident, 24 hours a day. On October 21, there were:

  • 1,215 views of the GoWYLD.net home page views from 491 users
  • 295 visits to the A to Z databases list and 561 views of the GoWYLD LibGuides — 74 different guides were accessed
  • 288 e-audiobook and 361 e-book digital checkouts from cloudLibrary digital checkouts. In total, 654 e-audiobooks and 361 e-books were on loan that day.
  • 556 sessions, 811 queries in Britannica
  • 2 sessions, 3 document views of 2 unique reports in CQ Researcher
  • 434 total visitors between October 21 and October 22 in Culturegrams
  • 3,639 sessions, 11,711 searches, and 1,436 retrievals in the Gale Databases
  • 10 logins to Pronunciator
  • 1046 searches across all Proquest Databases
  • 2 hours and 53 min of LinkedIn Learning content viewed by 12 users who viewed 48 videos total
