In addition to the live webinars in our training calendar, each month we try to pick some videos out there that you can watch “At Your Leisure.” These on-demand offerings caught our attention for July.

Grant Writing for Every Occasion (Wyoming SHRAB)
Want to develop your grant proposal writing skills? Or are you just beginning to explore the world of landing grants? Grant writing is no secret– it’s a learned skill. This workshop will help you master the logic and preparation needed for success. Learn tips, tricks, and pitfalls of grant writing, plus where to find help. We’ll discuss the elements of a proposal and how to develop, prepare, and present a compelling case that will make funders sit up and take notice.


Creating a Community of Readers: Academic Librarians Promoting Reading on Campus (iSchool @ UW-Madison)
How can academic librarians help the campus community build awareness of our leisure reading collections and connect to other readers on campus? Two academic librarians will share our successful programming strategies on a difficulty spectrum from easy to ambitious. Our past programs include silent reading parties, pop-up libraries, online book talks from campus community members, a Nerd Nite focused on books and reading, partnerships with public libraries and campus organizations, a community-wide reading program, and more! Attendees from all types of libraries will be able to adapt our approaches for their own contexts.

Presenter Laura Solomon will cover a plethora of online tools that you probably haven’t heard of but will be glad that you have.


Public Libraries and Public Health: Partners for Community Health (WebJunction)
Libraries are community hubs, including for health information and programming. As community health needs shift and grow, libraries are looking to support topics like consumer health literacy, healthy aging, mental health, food and nutrition, access to healthcare via telehealth, physical activity, and overcoming technological barriers to accessing health information. At the same time, the public health sector is learning that libraries are valuable partners in advancing local health priorities. Join this webinar for an introduction to public health, and hear how public health practitioners and library staff are partnering for success. Learn how to build library staff confidence in providing health information, assess community health needs, and build community partnerships that magnify the role public libraries play as key contributors to community health.


Trauma-Informed Librarianship: Building Communities of Care (Network of the National Library of Medicine)
Trauma-informed librarianship (TIL) is a vital practice that invites us to be intentional and deliberate about creating cultural shifts in how we approach our work to move towards healing, for our patrons, for each other, and for ourselves. This webinar will introduce participants to what trauma is and how it impacts both individuals- and communities; the principles and goals of trauma-informed librarianship; how we can apply this lens to library services in actionable ways to better support survivors in our libraries, whether they are patrons or colleagues; and how we can take care of ourselves too, through 10 concrete self-care strategies.
