United for Libraries (Association of Library Trustees, Advocates, Friends and Foundations) offers recorded webinars/webcasts that you can access 24/7 from the comfort of your own home, work, or the library. Currently, they are offering three free recorded webinars at www.ala.org/united/training/webinars.

  • Responding to a Budget Crisis (50 minutes)
    Learn how to develop a campaign for your library in a budget crisis from a group that fought for an additional $3.8 million for their library system. Find out how to work with the media, get publicity, find creative ways to campaign, and more.
  • Anatomy of a Successful Library Campaign: Real World Tips for Getting the Funding You Need (1 hour, 4 minutes)
    Libby Post of Communication Services and Doreen Hannon, executive director of the Salem-South Lyon (Mich.) District Library, who discusses the library’s successful millage campaign using the Citizens-Save-Libraries Power Guide for Successful Advocacy
  • How to Start a Friends Group (46 minutes)
    United for Libraries Executive Director Sally Gardner Reed with a free webinar on how to start a Friends of the Library group.

On February 1, 2009, Friends of Libraries U.S.A. (FOLUSA) and the Association for Library Trustees and Advocates (ALTA) joined forces to become an expanded division of ALA known as the Association of Library Trustees, Advocates, Friends and Foundations, now United for Libraries. United for Libraries is a national network of enthusiastic library supporters who believe in the importance of libraries as the social and intellectual centers of communities and campuses.
