The Wyoming State Library welcomed two new additions to our team. Genesis Schell is the WSL’s new Interlibrary Loan Technician, and Savannah Erickson is our Collections Technician. Both began their positions on May 1.

Genesis graduated from Northwest Community College in Powell, Wyoming, in 2020 with a degree in photographic communications. Following graduation, she moved to Laramie in June 2020 where she worked briefly as a receptionist at Laramie Range Ford and then went to work for the Albany County Treasurer’s Office for two years. She was looking to move to Cheyenne when she spotted the WSL opening and was interested.

“I’ve always loved being in libraries, especially around old books,” Genesis said. “My mom had worked in the Converse County Public Library many years ago for about a decade and always spoke positively about her experience there, so when this opportunity presented itself I found I could not let it pass, and I’m glad! Everyone I’ve met so far has been amazingly kind, and I can’t wait to get to know everyone better.”

She’s excited to learn about the interlibrary loan system and help get books to the people who need them. She hopes to make a positive impact here, and with the libraries and patrons she’ll work with.

“Genesis brings some great experience with local government agencies and customer service,” said Abby Beaver, Information Services manager. Her communication experience with the public and knowledge of how government policies can work between counties in Wyoming will be a great asset to our team.”

Savannah Erickson recently graduated from the University of Wyoming with a bachelor’s in English and minors in journalism, creative writing, and anthropology. She has volunteer experience with the Loveland Public Library and most recently at the Laramie County Public Library in Cheyenne. She’s also a member of Toastmasters to further her education outside of work.

Her love of books drew her to pursue the job at the State Library. She hopes to help make books and other resources more available to the public and grow her knowledge of libraries and their systems to better serve patrons.

“Savannah’s English and writing background will be a great addition,” Abby said. “We’re so happy with her eagerness to learn about our library and join the library profession.”

She added, “It’s exciting to have two new people start at the same time. We’re looking forward to what they’ll accomplish on our team.”
