GPO Completes Digitizing All Issues of the Federal Register
The The U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) and the National Archives’ Office of the Federal Register (OFR), have digitized every issue of the Federal Register, dating back to the first one published in 1936. A total of 14,587 individual issues, or nearly two million pages, has been digitized and is now available on GPO’s govinfo. The Federal Register is the official daily publication for rules, proposed rules, and notices of Federal agencies and organizations, as well as executive orders and other presidential documents.
2018 Teens’ Top Ten Nominees Announced
The 25 nominees for the 2018 Teens’ Top Ten award have been announced and may be found on the YALSA website. Teens are encouraged to read the titles, then vote for their favorites starting on August 15. Winners will be announced the week after Teen Read Week.
United for Libraries survey deadline May 19 for ‘Identifying Barriers to Library Board Service’
United for Libraries is working with the ALA Emerging Leaders program to identify possible barriers to service on library boards. Feedback from current and past library trustees, friends, foundation staff/board, and others will be extremely helpful in recognizing common issues that current and past board members encounter, and in the brainstorming on how to alleviate any issues. The survey will be open through Saturday, May 19.
The Value of Continuous Teen Services: A YALSA Position Paper
YALSA has issued a new position paper that promotes year-round services for teens and offers resources for addressing continuous teen services at your library. From the abstract: “All teens have the capacity to learn, grow, and develop into knowledgeable, caring, and contributing adults, but to do this they must have access to the very best services and programs school and public libraries can offer all year long.”
National Summer Learning Day is July 12
National Summer Learning Day is a national advocacy day aimed at elevating the importance of keeping kids learning, safe and healthy every summer, ensuring they return to school in the fall ready to succeed in the year. The National Summer Learning Association offers tips and resources to celebrate.
