The Wyoming State Library is pleased to welcome Stephanie Gertken, who has joined the WYLD Support Team as the Bibliographic Services Librarian. Stephanie, who prefers to be called “Steph,” started her new position on September 22, and she is looking forward to helping make Wyoming librarians’ jobs easier by making sure all library items from books and movies to tools in a library of things are as findable as possible.

“Stephanie brings years of experience in records management, training, and database maintenance to our team,” said Desiree Saunders, WSL WYLD Support Program Manager. “Her background working in a variety of libraries and state agencies gives her a wide perspective of the types of services that we support.  As the Bibliographic Services Librarian, Stephanie will be providing support for technical services in the ILS as well as database integrations with Aspen.  I’m very happy to welcome her to the WYLD Office!”

Steph is originally from Minnesota and began her educational journey as a theater major. After earning her bachelor’s degree and deciding against a career in theater, she earned her master’s degree in Information at the University of Michigan, which opened up a variety of opportunities for her in the realm of libraries and records management.

Although she is new to the Wyoming State Library (WSL), Steph has been involved with both the State of Wyoming and Wyoming libraries for many years, working for the Department of Environmental Quality from 2016 to 2022 and for the Wyoming State Archives from 2022 until 2024. She also served as Youth Services Librarian for the Laramie County Library System from January to September of 2025. These experiences have prepared her well for her new position at the WSL, and Steph is excited to build on her records management and library experiences.

“A library where items can be found is so much more than just a collection of pretty things,” said Steph. “With a great system, people can find those items and put them to good use.”

When she is not at work, Steph enjoys reading, playing games (board, card, and video), as well as camping and hiking with her family.

Please join the WSL in welcoming Steph to her new position in the Wyoming library community and seek her guidance regarding your library’s bibliographic needs!
