Woman with little girl on her shoulders. Text reads: Bookflix. Interactive books for early readers for free! From the Wyoming State LibraryNovember is National Picture Book Month and the week of the 7th-13th is Children’s Book Week. We would like to highlight a wonderful resource in GoWYLD.net, Bookflix. This can be found in GoWYLD.net under Kids K-8.

Bookflix is a literacy resource for grades PreK-3 that pairs classic fictional video storybooks with related e-books. Animation, audio, and interactive games are designed to reinforce core reading skills.

Select a pair from the nine different categories. For example click on Family & Communities, and select Chato’s Kitchen and Math in the Kitchen from the book pairs. Watch the video storybook, do the puzzlers, and read the nonfiction book.

The video story book can be used for story time or click the read-along option to combine audio with word by word highlighting as it plays.

Each pair includes interactive educational games (puzzlers): word match, fact or fiction, and which came first — all to enforce reading comprehension. There’s also a “meet the creators” tab to find out about the authors and illustrators.

Many of the pairs are also in Spanish. A list of pairs available in Spanish, pairs by running time, Lexile or grade level can be created by going to the apple/book icon in the top right to access Resources & Tools. Also under Resources & Tools are using paired texts, library programs, and classroom activities.

To learn more about Bookflix, click on the Tutorials tab on the far right of GoWYLD.net.

This resource is available for free from your library or, using your Wyoming library card and PIN, from your personal computer or mobile device.
