Feb 28, 2025

A new month is nearly upon us! March is National Reading Month for the United States, and it’s also month full of celebrations related to libraries, literacy, and learning. Here are some of the important celebrations coming up in March:

  • March is also Women’s History Month! Check out the Women’s History Month website for valuable resources, as well as the Women’s Suffrage in Wyoming subject guide on GoWYLD for information about important women in Wyoming’s history.
  • National Consumer Protection Week is March 2-8, 2025, and helps people understand their consumer rights and avoid frauds and scams. Find more information on the NCPW website.
  • Read Across America Week is March 2-7 this year, and Read Across America Day is March 2. You can find more information about Read Across America on the National Education Association website.
  • National Grammar Day is March 4. Did you know that Mometrix on GoWYLD has a collection of videos about various English language and grammar topics including capitalization, punctuation, usage, and more? Celebrate by polishing your grammar with Mometrix!
  • Pi Day on March 14 is the perfect opportunity for math to take center stage. Check out the Pi Day website for ideas on how to celebrate this deliciously mathematical day.
  • National Freedom of Information Day is celebrated annually on or around March 16, which is former U.S. President James Madison’s birthday. This special day commemorates the National Freedom of Information Act and public access to government information. Find more information on the FOIA website.
  • Are you looking for a way to celebrate World Poetry Day on March 21? Look no further than the poetry resources on GoWYLD! The Poets on Screen Library contains 879 clips of poets reading their own and other poets’ work while The Poetry Archive includes recordings of important contemporary poets reading their own poetry.
  • National Tolkien Reading Day March 25 celebrates the work of J.R.R. Tolkien, author of The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, and many more works of fiction and philology. Use Libby on GoWYLD to check out J.R.R. Tolkien’s work in e-book or e-audiobook form, or check out GoWYLD’s readers advisory tools to find similar books you or your patrons may enjoy.

The Wyoming State Library wishes you a great March, and we hope you find plenty of opportunities to celebrate!
