Data-Driven Decision-Making at the LCLS Leads to Changes in Hours

Oct 21, 2024

As library professionals, we use data to drive our decisions about many different things. We also keep a close watch on the “pulse” of the communities we serve. Using the data we collect, both numerical and anecdotal, we can make prudent choices for our libraries to help us best serve our patrons effectively and sustainably.

The Laramie County Library System’s (LCLS) main location in Cheyenne recently noticed they had been receiving a number of patron requests for an earlier opening time and more time on Sundays. After noticing this, LCLS leadership combed through gate and meeting room data to determine whether or not a different closing time would have a negative effect on patron’s use of the space. They decided that the data were in line with patron requests and that shifting hours would provide the greatest benefit to the largest number of patrons.

“We think that opening our doors earlier and providing a more consistent schedule, will make the library’s resources and services more accessible to residents of Laramie County and visitors from anywhere,” said Jesse Dorst, LCLS Community and Media Relations Manager.

The LCLS’s new hours at their location in Cheyenne will begin November 4, 2024. They will be open Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m., and Friday through Sunday, 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
