Free Webinar-Navigating Misinformation Online

May 22, 2024

Older adults, communities of color, and rural populations in the U.S. are disproportionately affected by misinformation. This amplifies some of the biggest problems facing America today: intensifying polarization, promoting vaccine hesitancy and undermining faith in democratic institutions.

MediaWise in collaboration with The American Library Association (ALA) Public Programs Office and Stanford Social Media Lab through support from Stanford Impact Labs and the Empowering Diverse Digital Citizens Lab, has created a digital toolkit that can be used by librarians across the country to teach digital media literacy to adults in their communities. This free webinar on May 30, 2024, at 12:00 pm (MDT) will walk participants through the toolkit contents, highlight its key features and discuss concepts that can be introduced through a range of programming options. Register here.

In this webinar, participants will:

  • Become familiar with the content and features in the Be MediaWise Misinformation Toolkit for Libraries and understand different ways the material can be presented in their libraries
  • Enhance their knowledge of the misinformation landscape in preparation for implementation of training programs in their libraries

This webinar will be presented online via Zoom. Closed captions will be enabled during the presentation, and we will email a copy of the slide deck to all registered attendees 24 hours before the presentation. The chat transcript and recording will be provided to all attendees within 48 hours of the webinar. If you need other reasonable accommodations, please reach out to us via email at publicprograms@ala.org by May 24, 2024. Requests made after that date may not be able to be accommodated.
