Happy 80th Birthday to Smokey Bear!

Smokey Bear teaches young Sweetwater County Library patrons about fire safety with the help of a forestry worker in June 2024.

The Wyoming State Library wishes a very happy 80th birthday to Smokey Bear, the U.S. Forest Service’s longtime wildfire prevention mascot and reading champion of this year’s Collaborative Summer Library Program. Several of our Wyoming libraries have participated in the Smokey Bear Reading Challenge as part of their summer reading program for kids. The Sweetwater County Library even had a visit from Smokey Bear himself! Read more about Smokey’s visit here.
