Happy Draw a Bird Day from the Wyoming State Library (WSL)!
This unique and uplifting holiday originated in the 1940s in the wake of World War II as a way for soldiers, medical professionals, and others to take pleasure in the simple things in life. Over 75 years later, it is now unofficially celebrated annually on April 8 all over the world.
Draw a Bird Day pairs perfectly with National Library Week’s theme for 2025, “Drawn to the Library,” several WSL staff and their families took a few moments to draw birds.

Join in the celebration by drawing your own bird! Need some inspiration? Visit your local Wyoming library in person to check out a book about birds or nature drawing or check out an e-book on GoWYLD‘s Libby using your Wyoming library card. Or, for avifauna specific to Wyoming, you can peruse an issue or two of Wyoming Wildlife, a publication of the Wyoming Game and Fish Department that is available in the State Publications database located within the WSL’s Digital Collection Suite.
