Today is Johnny Appleseed Day, a day people celebrate the birth of a very famous historical figure—John Chapman, who was more commonly known as Johnny Appleseed. You can find many informative resources about this American pioneer who planted apple seeds throughout the midwest and left a living legacy of foliage and fruit throughout the United States, as well as the delicious and nutritious fruit he planted, on GoWYLD.

Gale in Context Biography has articles on the world’s most influential people of yesterday and today and can be found among GoWYLD Student Research Resources. Simply type in the name of the person (John Chapman, etc.) you’d like to learn more about and you can access updated biographical information, as well as a bibliography of additional articles and resources in which they are mentioned.

Bookflix, a Scholastic resource on GoWYLD that pairs fiction and nonfiction texts for kids, has a video storybook and a nonfiction e-book about Johnny Appleseed, as well.

Brittanica School is another great place to find informational articles about people, place, and things, and includes information at three different levels-Elementary, Middle School, and High School. Simply type “Johnny Appleseed” or “apples” into the resource’s search bar, and you can find the answers to all of your questions.
