Job Opening at the WSL: Legislative Librarian

Come work with the fantastic team at the Wyoming State Library! The WSL has an opening for a Legislative Librarian.

Are you a creative, outgoing self-starter with a love of history and research? This professional position coordinates the overall technical management of the State Library’s Legislative Collection, part of the Digital Content Suite, and supports other digital-based programs and software in the State Library. This work directly addresses the mission of the library: To provide exceptional and reliable information to our patrons. This position also serves as the State Library’s specialist for the Wyoming Legislative Project.

The Legislative Librarian will be responsible for the collection, performing metadata manipulation and organization, and adding links to all legislative bills and bill actions.

In addition, the person in this position will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring descriptive metadata conforms to library standards and best practices
  • Providing for the selection, organization, and promotion of the Wyoming Legislative Project
  • Developing strategies and work plans for the Legislation Database.
  • Serving as research and subject specialist for state legislative documents and questions.
  • Sharing responsibility in system development, upgrades, and data conversion. Liaise with PTFS, Veridian, & ETS in solving system software and hardware problems.

Other important duties will include:

  • Keeping abreast of developments in library and archival services and vendors’ implementation of emerging technology. Participate in vendors’ beta development projects
  • Assisting management teams in preparing usage data for planning purposes. Liaise with ETS Support when telecommunications, firewall, and security issues arise
  • Coordinating and perform technical analysis and support (training, updates, features, troubleshooting, etc.) with library staff and their specified collections in DCS
  • Providing technical assistance with the setup and integration of updates and peripheral “software” related and connected to the system, such as the WSL website
  • Troubleshooting software and/or server-related issues to determine if local, ETS or vendor response is needed
  • Designing and providing customizations to public user interfaces. Create technical documentation for all aspects of the DCS
  • Identifying and communicating software functionality issues (aka bugs) or request enhancements for the library system software to the vendor and ETS. Coordinate with the manager to schedule and plan for software upgrades
  • Providing end-user support for Legislative Collection and DCS to ensure online libraries are accessible, interoperable across a variety of platforms, and provide quality user experience
  • Planning, developing, and implementing a digital preservation plan

Preference may be given for a Master of Library and Information Science degree from an American Library Association-accredited library school.
