The Wyoming Department of Agriculture has been working on projects that address stress and suicide prevention for agricultural producers. They have a new AgriStress Helpline with a toll-free number at (833) 897-2474 for Wyoming residents to get help on a variety of ag-related issues.
The department is asking libraries to help spread the word about this resource in every community. They have printed postcards, business cards, and posters available with the AgriStress number for Wyoming. You can request pre-printed posters and other materials from Lucy Pauley at lucy.pauley@wyo.gov and/or download the poster as a PDF or JPG. You may also reach Lucy at (307) 777-8788.
Additional agricultural stress resources are available on the department’s website.
Hello,
My name is Jeanette Lopez, I am an Animal Science and Agribusiness major currently at Casper College. I’ve been tasked a project this semester by my political science professor to get involved with the community and volunteer or help where I can. I wanted to choose something that helped my community but also something I was passionate about. As a student of agriculture I want to help this community with the struggles I know are present and increasing which is the suicide and financial stress that comes with farm and ranch work and management. If there’s anything I can do, events I can volunteer or attend, letters I can write, I would love to be a part of this. Please advise and thank you so much for your work.
Jeanette – thanks for commenting. If you would like to get involved, please contact Lucy Pauley at lucy.pauley@wyo.gov and hopefully she can help you or get you to the right person. We were passing along the information for her.
