Baseball Opening Day is March 30. Barring postponement, it will be the first time since 1968 that every MLB team opens on the same day.

Learn about the history of baseball with GoWYLD. Check out the U.S. History (Gale In Context) topic page for a variety of source types and Public Library Video Online for the Ken Burns’ Baseball documentary—all 11 parts!

Select U.S History (Gale In Context) from the alphabetical list on GoWYLD.net or under the History subject category. Click on Browse Topics (top right on the navigation bar) and then select Baseball. Topic pages include a broad overview (click on Read More), as well as magazine and journal articles, biographies, reference items, video, audio (mostly from National Public Radio broadcasts), images, primary sources and new items.

Select Public Library Video Online from the alphabetical list (again, on GoWYLD.net) and search “Ken Burns baseball” within All Channels. Then click on the series. Each episode is around two hours. As the series description says, “It is a saga spanning the quest for racial justice, the clash of labor and management, the transformation of popular culture, and the unfolding of the national pastime.”

Public Library Video Online provides unlimited streaming content including documentaries, interviews, performances, news programs, newsreels, and life-long learning content. Content providers include CNN, BBC, 60 Minutes, PBS, Bloomberg, The Open University, Royal Shakespeare Company, The Wall Street Journal, and CreativeLive.
