The Wyoming State Library is currently seeking an Interlibrary Loan Technician to assist in the daily inter-library loan duties. This position assists in the physical processing of library materials being added or removed from the State Library’s collection and ensures they are discoverable and accessible by patrons and staff and supports digitization programs. The Inter-library Loan Technician will spend a significant amount of time staffing the reference desk to support direct patron calls, emails, and queries.
Some of the tasks this position will entail include:
- Using interlibrary loan software to manage item borrowing and lending requests between libraries for state employees
- Providing support and training with minimal supervision for state-wide inter-library loan software
- Managing State Library serial records and items
- Creating and attach call number labels and property stamp items
- Maintaining holdings information in the integrated library system
- Maintaining WSL patron database in the integrated library system circulation database
- Leading in adding new patron records
- Processing all incoming and outgoing agency mail
- Maintaining an adequate inventory of frequently used office supplies
- Ordering supplies for special projects when requested
- Providing service desk support, and direct reference questions to appropriate librarians for state agencies, libraries, and library patrons
The ideal candidate will have knowledge of:
- Office procedures, filing, alphabetizing, English language, and arithmetic
- Modern office practices, procedures, and equipment
- Word processing, spreadsheet, and email programs
- Google Suite
- Assembling, sorting, and distributing documents
- Reviewing and editing documents for accuracy and completeness
- Methods used to deal with the public tactfully
- Telephone etiquette and coordinating telephone and visitor traffic
- Preparation of records, reports, and correspondence
- Agency policies and procedures
- Library classification systems
Preference may be given to applicants with previous customer service experience, cataloging experience, familiarity with common library practices of book processing and inter-library loan, and experience with any integrated library system software.
