Five Wyoming library directors from various parts of the state gathered at the Wyoming State Library in Cheyenne for the Wyoming State Library Directors’ Orientation on Monday, September 9.

Directors attending this orientation session included:

  • Amy Long, Director of the Sheridan County Library
  • John Jackson, Director of the Campbell County Library System
  • Antonia Gaona, Director of the Laramie County Library System
  • Tina Ely, Director of the Big Horn County Library System
  • and Kathleen Kirk, Director of the Weston County Library System.

The directors spent the day with State Library staff, learning how each of the teams support and relate to libraries throughout Wyoming. The Library Development team kicked off the morning by providing training regarding annual reporting requirements, grant opportunities, training and consulting services, among other topics. Information Services staff presented an overview of the WSL’s digital collection suite, as well as state and federal depository programs and PTDL services. A discussion about library communication channels and publication, the WSL website, marketing campaigns, and promotional materials and branding was led by the Marketing team, followed by instruction about material acquisition, purchasing support, and other funding topics with the WSL’s business manager. The WYLD Support team reviewed the WYLD Network, database quality and management, and inter-library loan protocols. The directors wrapped up the day with Abby Beaver, Wyoming State Librarian, reviewing information about the WSL’s role, statewide projects, library laws, and other relevant matters.

“We love having our new directors visit and learning from them how we can best provide support to them in their new roles,” said Abby. “It’s also a great opportunity for us to show off all our fantastic resources.”
