BookFlix is one of several collections for kids on the Wyoming State Library’s GoWYLD portal and offers a wide array of both fiction and non-fiction resources for young readers grades PreK-3.
BookFlix’s collection of paired texts is organized into nine categories:
- Animals and Nature
- Earth and Sky
- People and Places
- ABCs and 123s
- Adventure
- Family and Community
- Celebrations
- Music and Rhyme
- Imagination
Each category is full of paired titles, offering kids a wealth of literature and informational text. If kids are having a hard time selecting from the choices, a featured pair is suggested in each topic to get them started. Along with each video storybook and non-fiction e-book in each module, there are also games and puzzles to help reinforce vocabulary, as well as skills such as sequencing and determining between fact and fiction. Links to kid-friendly websites with additional information on the module’s topic and information about the author of each book also accompany each pair. Additionally, many titles are available in both English and Spanish to support ELL and multilingual learning.
BookFlix offers kids a great opportunity to dig deeper into a topic they love or learn the basics of a new topic. It’s also a wonderful way to balance kids’ reading diets with both fiction and non-fiction. All titles are searchable by theme, topic, running time, Lexile, and grade level.
