CASPER, Wyo. — Following an extensive national search, the Natrona County Library has announced the appointment of Lisa Scroggins as library director effective May 2, 2016.

Scroggins has served as the library director at the Claud H. Gilmer Memorial Library in Rocksprings, Texas since 2008. She is also a former classroom educator, school district business manager, Sul Ross State University graduate, and she earned her master’s degree in library science from the University of North Texas.

“When the library board met with Lisa, we were immediately taken by her enthusiasm and excitement for libraries as well as her commitment to the library’s place in our community,” said Hampton O’Neill, library board president. “Lisa has a wealth of experience, not only in education, business, and managing a library, but also in working with the public. We look forward to her leadership of the library.”

Scroggins, along with her husband, Al, and 10-year-old daughter, Allie Jo, look forward to making Casper their new home. “We’re bracing ourselves for the wind and cold,” she said. “However, I was really impressed when I visited Casper. It’s beautiful, the people are nice, the restaurants and stores are great, there’s an abundance of outdoor activities, and the unity in the library and community is inspiring.”

“It’s obvious to me that the staff is doing an incredible job,” Scroggins said. “I’m impressed by everything I’ve seen. I am not coming in expecting to make any immediate changes. Instead, I’m interested in exploring new opportunities, building on what they’ve already achieved.”

Prior to taking on the mantle of library director, Scroggins plans to attend the Friends of the Library’s Edible Bookfest on Saturday, April 23. “I’m really excited for the Bookfest. I look forward to speaking with the public and exploring ways the library can better serve the community.”

Scroggins succeeds Bill Nelson, who served as Library Director from June 1999 until his retirement on August 12, 2015.

Interim Director Kate Mutch will continue to lead the Natrona County Library until Scroggins takes up her post in May. Mutch will resume her role as the library’s public services librarian upon Scroggins’ arrival.
