Sheridan librarian Helen Graham passes away at age of 94

HELEN002Helen I. Graham, 94, of Sheridan, Wyoming, died Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at Sugarland Ridge.

Helen Ila Watts Graham was born September 3, 1918 in Spearfish, South Dakota to Bert C. and Stella J. (Smith) Watts. Helen graduated from Hulett High School in Hulett, Wyoming and attended Black Hills Teacher’s College in Spearfish.

Miss Watts married Thomas U. Graham June 8, 1940 in Jordan, Montana.

Helen was a teacher and librarian. She taught for four years in rural schools in Crook County, Wyoming, spent 5 years at Sheridan High School in the Library and Study Hall. Helen then worked for 31 years at the Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library as Assistant Director and as the Director of the Wyoming Room.

Mrs. Graham was a member of the First Congregational Church in Sheridan, the Daughters of the American Revolution, Chapter A. B., of P. E. O., and the Sheridan County Historical Society. She was an author, photographer, water color painter, and a local historian and Lincoln scholar.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas; her parents, Bert and Stella Watts; three brothers, Paul and Robert Watts, and Michael Hoolahan; and son-in-law Stewart Kimble.

Helen is survived by three daughters, Billie L. Kimble, of Harbor City, California, Barbara L. Ray, (Alan), of Waxahachie, Texas, and Marcia Wyett, (Mike), of Colorado Springs, Colorado; 5 grandchildren; Max & Barry Kimble, Jennifer Ray Holley, Thomas Ray, and Benjamin Wyett; and 8 great grandchildren.

Memorials in memory of Mrs. Graham may be made to the Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library, the First Congregational Church, Sheridan, or Hospice of the Big Horns.
