Banned Books Week-Freed Between the Lines

Sep 25, 2024

This year’s Banned Books Week, September 22-28, is a reminder of the unifying power of stories. The 2024 theme is “Freed Between the Lines”.

Since it was founded in 1982, Banned Books Week has drawn attention to the attempts to remove books and other materials from libraries, schools, and bookstores. All readers deserve to see themselves reflected in the books available to them, and people better understand themselves and each other when given the opportunity to choose what they want to read without restriction.

Ava DuVernay has been named Honorary Chair for Banned Books Week 2024. She is a groundbreaking writer, director, and producer behind acclaimed films and television projects, as well as an Academy Award nominee and winner of Emmy, BAFTA, NAACP, GLAAD, Critics Choice, and Peabody Awards.
